Posted September 4, 2008  - The Initiative is Approved for Signing

The initiative is approved for signing. We have made several changes to the web site to focus on the proposed Charter. There is a New Page all about the Charter and what is going on with it. Darrell is currently gathering the signatures from those that already let him know they were interested and those that have been stopping him in the street. The number needed is 217 verified signatures, but he is planning on getting more for the verification process. Please make sure you are registered to vote in Lafayette. You can call the clerk's office at (503)434-7518 to find out. The plan is to get all the steps approved to get it on the March, 2009 ballot. This will not be a special election – this is a regularly scheduled election time. Once the signatures are received and verified, our city council will have the opportunity to approve the charter or pass it on to the voters. So, a need for the YES vote from you in March will depend on the city council. Darrell can come by to you or you can come by to him to sign the initiative. He is at 287 Canyon View Drive and can be reached at 503-857-2555 or teagle7@gmail.com. You can even gather a few friends and neighbors and have a signing party.

Posted August 11, 2008 - Lafayette Charter Initiative Found Constitutional

For those of you following the saga that is the Lafayette Charter initiative, you will be pleased to know it has cleared its first hurdle. The elections representative, Candace Haines, has decided it does not violate the constitutional requirements. So, next step: the ballot title and text. Keep those great thoughts coming. And we really appreciate all of the input we have received. Even from those people who pretend to protest in the public arena. Look for a signature sheet coming your way soon...See the unofficial OK here

Posted July 15, 2008 - Grade 1 Water Crisis

Dear Water Customer:

The City’s water resources include springs, 4 wells in the City watershed, 1 well in Joel Perkins Park, and 1 well in the Dayton well field. Unfortunately, with the hot weather, this has not proven to be adequate to keep up with the demand that has occurred over the last few weeks, and the reservoir has fallen to a level that requires action by the City...Read the Rest Here

Posted July 9, 2008 - Proposed City Charter

It's finally ready for a real release. If you get a chance, please review. Let us know what you hate, what you love and what you think is missing. I am planning on filing next week. I know they will wait until the last possible moment to approve it, so then we will have to run around and get the signatures to get it on the ballot in time. Would hate to do it at a special election. Proposed City Charter
