Save Yourself - They Won't

   Never enough time

Over and over they say it. Never enough time to get the job done right.

Its actually a pet peeve of a couple of council members. Council asks for things to be done, or when things can be done, and Preston goes on and on (and before Preston, there were others, but Preston seems to use it the most) about how there just isn't enough time in the day.

What kinds of things to be done, you may ask? Photocopying...posting documents online...getting the councilors correct information. We were just too busy, he says.

Councilor Chris Pagella told them that if they need more staff, let the council now. No word of additional staff. Councilor Pagella has been asking for the city to provide a staff time audit since the spring of 2007. That's 6-1/2 years. He's not the only person who asked for it, but he has been the most vocal.

Has this audit been done? Nope. We have heard every excuse of why it can't be. We've even heard NO.

Are we talking about the need to bring in highly paid consultants? No. We are talking about asking staff to simply write down what they do in a day for a five day period and simply turn it over to some volunteers who can assess if the times seem reasonable.

Given that little forward movement is being made in getting documents online, work product is poor and council does not have accurate information provided to them consistently, it would seem it would be a reasonable request.

Why so secretive about how your time is spent?
